MEXICO CITY - The actor, director and producer Mexican Julián Pastor, credited with six Ariel nominations, died last night at the age of 71, however, it wasn't until today his death was unveiled through major cultural institutions, following which members of the film community, as screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga, lamented his death
Pastor, who also excelled as a writer, editor, set designer and writer for theater, film and television, directed more than 30 films in his career and appeared in more than seventy national films with directors such as Arturo Ripstein, Alberto Isaac, Joseph Estrada, Miguel Littin, Felipe Cazals, Luis Mandoki, Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, Olhovich Sergio and Carlos Enrique Taboada, as highlighted by the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) in a brief statement.
Although IMCINE depends directly on Conaculta, the latter made a separate statement where Pastor cinematography work and his time in the theater stands.
Similarly, the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and the Supervisory Committee of the Mexican Society of Filmmakers Directors, where Pastor circulated a statement which deplored his death.
Julián Pastor Llaneza (October 18,1943-August 24, 2015) took classes in drawing, painting and art in the theatrical school Robin Bond, and began studying architecture at UNAM, but soon left to devote himself to the cinema of the visual arts. He took film classes at the University of Southern California in the United States, and acted with Seki Sano stage managers, Hector Mendoza and Juan Jose Gurrola.
His acting debut was in the theater with The Possessed (1963), Fyodor Dostoyevsky, directed by Gurrola, after which he acted in more than ten plays; and worked inconstruction management. Once in America (1971), original Fulgueira, Lou Andreas Salome E. Ruiz Garcia (1984) and Raptola, violola and matola of Alejandro Licona (1988). In addition to writing and directing musical literary evening Wow Bar and authored the literary cabaret-musical evenings, which led to 1978-1995 in 1974.
An interesting fact is little known and was speaker of Radio UNAM in 1964, the date on which debuted in film as an actor in this town there are no thieves,obtaining the best actor award at the First Experimental Film Contest 1965. It was followed by films like Patsy, my love, Memories of the Future, the white widow, Disturbed, Those years, long way to Tijuana, beginning and end, the Colonel Writes and The Virgin Of Lust, among many others. In Spain he starred with Lola Flores in a great lady (1967) and in Puerto Rico in La Gran Fiesta (1985).
His film directorial debut was made in 1970 with the film's Justice is Twelve, which was followed by films like The Coming King Olmos, The Expected Desperate Love, Divine Caste Those Ruins You See, The Unsung Hero, Portrait of Anabella, Morals, and the Treasure of Clotilde. He was nominated for the Ariel Award for Best Director for his work on Die Young Privileges and Early Mornings.
He also wrote the original screenplays of films like The Coming King Olmos (for which he was nominated for an Ariel for Best Original Screenplay) New Options, Small Privileges, The Flight of the Stork and A Woman in the Office.
For his part, the Supervisory Committee of the Mexican Society of Directors Filmmakers Association and emphasized the authorial activity Pastor, as he was Secretary General of the Section of Directors of the STPC RM (1986-1999). Founder and secretary general of the Trade Union of Film Directors. He served as local secretary of the Mexican Society of Directors-Directors of Audiovisual Works from 1990 to 2005, where he currently served as member of the monitoring committee.
He most recently starred opposite Jose Maria Negri and Edgar Parra in the Orientation Theatre in The Extinction of the Dinosaurs as part of the programming of INBA Theatre in 2013.
