RIP Edith Hancke

The actress Edith Hancke has died at 86 years of age in Berlin. Hancke was regarded as the "Queen of the Boulevard Theatre".  She also appeared in many films and in 2000 received the Golden Camera for her life's work.

She was the "Queen of the Boulevard Theatre," where her distinctive voice was one of her hallmarks: The actress Edith Hancke stood for decades on stage and appeared in numerous films: Now she died at 86 years old in Berlin.  This was confirmed by the Berlin Theater am Kurfürstendamm.

At drama school which she attended in Berlin she once flunked "because of a lack of talent".  Three weeks later, however, she had her first film role in Hauptmann's " Biberpelz".  After that she acted with others at the Berlin Renaissance Theatre, the Deutsches Theater, the Schiller Theater and at the grandstand.  Often she appeared with her husband and fellow actor Klaus Sonnenschein on stage.

In addition, she appeared in numerous films, most recently in spring 2009, alongside Christine Neubauer in the ARD comedy " Schaumküsse".  In 2000 she received the Goldene Kamera for her life's work.
