Lithuania has lost a legend in the world of theater. Death has claimed the legend of theater and film, the National Culture and Art Prize winner Donatas Banionis this year. On April 28th he celebrated his 90th birthday. The news portal Žmonės.lt confirmed Banionis death via Donatas’ son, director Raimundas Banionis. The film legend has passed away, it occurred on Thursday afternoon September 4th, in a hospital intensive care unit. A farewell to one of the greatest actors of all time will be held in Lithuania in Panevezys and Vilnius. Exact details will be announced soon.
In 2004 the artist was awarded the Order for Merits to Lithuania Commander Grand Cross, 1994 - Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, Commander of the Order of the Cross. In 2008. Banionis for historical contribution to the Lithuanian cinema, was awarded the Silver Crane.
