Unforgettable was his face, from the many films in black and white directed by the greatest directors, up to the role of St. Peter in a TV spot, which had also made him famous among children. Spontaneous and never divo, ironically commenting on the fact that people stop him on the street: "I wonder how you are up there, or to intercede with the Eternal Father." He spent his whole life with the same partner, his wife Maria Grazia 60 years of marriage: "A great good fortune. He has patience, but scolds me for my laziness when not working - told -. She is from Milan, I’m from Rome". He smiled commenting on the image of their neighbors, he one meter and 87, she a meter and 48: "Small and tough." He was the brother of the director and screenwriter Sergio Garrone, with whom he also worked.

After studying at the dramatic academy "Silvio D'Amico", chosen because all those who were going to eat in the restaurant of his grandmother told him "that one is so beautiful he could only be an actor," he began acting in the theater with the company Gassman- Torrieri-Zareschi, then with the Morelli-Stoppa company, directed by Luchino Visconti.
